Yala National Park Safari Tours — Ride-Share & Private Jeeps
Wildcat Hostel Yala runs daily safari jeeps directly into Yala National Park from our own property at the Katagamuwa (Gate 2) entrance — no need to arrange transport or book with unknown outside drivers. Around 75% of our guests are solo female travelers or all-female groups, and our ride-share safaris are one of the easiest ways to meet fellow travelers while splitting the cost of a jeep.

Q: What's the best time to see leopards in Yala National Park? Early morning (5:30 AM departure) and late afternoon are generally the best windows, since leopards are most active when temperatures are cooler. Our drivers track daily sightings and adjust routes accordingly, which improves your chances but can never guarantee a sighting, since the animals roam freely.
Q: How much does a Yala safari cost? Our half-day safari is $18 USD per person and our full-day safari is $30 USD per person, both based on a shared jeep of 6 people. Smaller groups pay a slightly higher per-person rate to cover vehicle costs. The park entrance ticket (approx. LKR 13,000 per person) is separate and paid in cash at the gate.
Q: What should I bring on a Yala safari? Cash for your park entrance ticket, sun protection (hat, sunscreen,binocular's), a light jacket for the cool early morning departure, a camera or phone with zoom capability, and comfortable clothing in neutral colors.
Q: Can I join a safari if I'm not staying at Wildcat Hostel? Yes — our ride-share safaris are open to any traveler in the area, not only guests staying with us. Message us on WhatsApp to check availability.
Q: Why enter through Gate 2 instead of the main Yala entrance? The Katagamuwa (Gate 2) entrance sees far fewer visitors than the main entrance, so you skip the long queues common during peak season while still accessing Yala Block 1, one of the park's richest wildlife zones.
Q: Is lunch included on the full-day safari? Not directly — we stop at a beach inside the park where you can rest, use restroom facilities, and buy your own lunch before continuing the afternoon drive.
